Record Quality
We make super simple and affordable 7 inch 'retro inspired' vinyl records, We think they're absolutely great !
Records are 'cut' in original 50s and 60s style mono using vintage vinyl record making equipment. The sound quality is good (expect old school 'medium-fi’) and similar to the raw energy and vibe of traditional 7 inch singles of this era. There may be some surface noise in places from the manual production process and like all records, the occasional crackle of static - these being natural and expected artefacts of vinyl records, and from resurrecting nearly 40 year old sound technology.
Each record is made individually in 'real time' by hand (set up, digital to analogue mastering and transfer to vinyl) so a human being is very much part of the recording process; different genres of music can translate slightly differently to vinyl and as such each record will have an individual sound character and depends on the tonality and quality of the source material. We produce classic black vinyl singles as standard, or can also produce clear 'flexi-discs' as a slightly cheaper option. All of our records are traditionally manufactured using high grade virgin vinyl record blanks (& not to be confused with lower grade polycarbonate plastic).
Original Vinyl Copies
For original material, we proudly support independent artists, record labels & recording studios and are able to produce one off and short runs of vinyl records. The copyright remains entirely the property of you, the creative artist/s.
'Archive' Copies and Backups
We are also able to make vinyl copies of any sound material that you have essentially already purchased/own e.g. CD, mp3 etc, or have worn out (e.g. existing record) and require a vinyl copy/'back up' - Great for building up your vinyl record collection and excellent for stocking Jukeboxes !
(general copyright note - archive copies are intended for 'personal and not for profit use only').
Record Players and Jukeboxes
Record players are like the resurgence of vinyl records - they've come 'full circle' to meet up with supposed 21st century high tech (......mp3s?!): so transport yourself back in time: You can pick yourself up good second hand turntable (as well as accessing replacement stylus needles) in the classifieds, hi-fi stores, eBay, Amazon etc and even the brands of 'Project', 'Ion' and 'Crossley' make a selection of budget as well as 'retro influenced' turntables. Our 7"s sound great on a cross section of these types of entry level players and are excellent as reproduction records for Jukeboxes - just how 45 rpm singles used to get played in teenage bedrooms, dance nights and bars everywhere!
Postage and turnaround
We're based in France, which is either the same county as yours or close to the country you live in! The current production turn around time is about 1-2 weeks - it physically takes us this time to master to analogue, record to disc, sound-check, print the labels and run down to the postbox (well, the children run down to the postbox). Postage to anywhere Europe is usually less than a week (and around 2-3 to the US/RoW). We ship using high quality but low cost record mailers in order to keep the postage/packaging as low as possible. If anything arrives damaged we will gladly replace it free of charge. Handmade Vinyl Records is a small creative business run completely in spare time - we're artists ourselves and will gladly help if you have any queries.
File types
We're generally able to master most audio file types and codecs. Try to send conventional .wav format if possible. We can also master .mp3s (e.g. 256kbps), although the tonal quality is generally 'thinner' when translated to vinyl. Please try sending via email if this works or most probably use a free transfer site such as www.wesendit.com, www.wetransfer.com etc. (very easy to use). We also accept CDs through the post (but can't return these).
Other stuff
Can't get enough ? Check out: 'The Joy of the Single' (BBC documentary), 'The Boat that Rocked' (Film), 'High Fidelity' (Film), Sing Street (Film)
